Written messages are translated. Speech is next.
Type on a channel in English or Spanish, and each person reads it in their own language. This page says what runs today and what doesn't, and we update it as the work moves.
What runs today
Written messages
- A message typed on a channel is translated between English and Spanish, on a server RogerDeck runs itself. No outside translation service sees it.
- A translated message shows with a toggle back to the original.
- If that server is down, the message arrives as it was typed, and its translation follows when the server is back.
Rigging channels
- A rigging channel, or another hazardous department's, stays in the language each message was typed in, unless rigging translation has been switched on for that company. Then the original and the translation show together.
- A wrong word on a rigging call is a safety problem, so the original always stays on screen.
What isn't live yet
Spoken translation. Nothing records a call's audio yet, so what is said on the radio is not transcribed or translated. In development.
Overselling a comms tool is dangerous.
RogerDeck carries a live show's communication, emergency alerts included. A crew member who expects a translation that never comes is worse off than a crew that knows what runs and plans around it. We update this page as the work moves, and it says "shipped" only when it has.
